Biodiseño

Waste Lab Bizkaia

  • Mapping and sourcing local waste materials to work with: agri-food, textiles, wool, etc.
  • Experimenting and researching in a workshop-lab environment to create bioplastics, bioleathers, and biocomposites
  • Characterizing the resulting biomaterials to identify potential applications in sectors such as textiles, interior design, packaging, or signage

The goal of this challenge is to help shape a concrete innovation proposal based on a local waste stream, evaluating its environmental impact, scalability, and fit within the local production ecosystem. It is aimed at:

  • Design and creative professionals interested in developing circular and responsible solutions through the use of local organic waste
  • Companies and institutions that generate this type of waste and are looking for new ways to valorize it or manage it more sustainably

The challenge will take place in person at Waste Lab Bizkaia and will follow this methodology:

  • Guided demonstrations of material explorations
  • Independent work and experimentation
  • Systematic documentation of tests and micro-iterations on samples
  • Life cycle analysis of each material: waste origin, transformation, use, and end of life

Session dates:

  • Thursday, April 30, from 15:00 to 17:00
  • Thursday, May 7, from 15:00 to 19:00
  • Thursday, May 28, from 15:00 to 19:00
  • Thursday, June 11, from 15:00 to 18:00
