Objective
Development
- La Calle (upper floor) is dedicated to raising awareness about waste prevention and management, through a journey through the history of Garbiker and an exhibition showcasing industrial recycling processes and products designed from waste, provided by Aclima and EIDE respectively, as well as a conference space.
- El Barrio (ground floor) is the active workspace, hosting work placements, final-year projects, innovation projects and research residencies. It features resources such as a materials library with 8,000 items for projects and a first prototype of the VCR project — a platform providing access to Creative Waste Recovery projects.
- La Plaza (middle floor) is the meeting and exchange area, facilitating networking and promoting training. This structure facilitates interaction between all stakeholders, making the concept of the circular economy tangible.
In this space, EIDE has developed various initiatives aimed at driving the creative sectors and creating innovation projects centred on waste (Alegre Biribilketa, From Waste to Treasures, Creative Waste Valorisation, etc.), as well as helping to define curricular placements and final-year projects with various training centres and specialisms:
- CIFP TARTANGA LHII. Environmental Science and Health.
- Faculty of Pharmacy. Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences.
- School of Engineering. Circular Economy: Application to Business.
- Faculty of Science and Technology. Environment, Sustainability and SDGs.
- University of Deusto. Faculty of Engineering. Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design Engineering

WLB is a project of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, conceptualised, developed, launched and coordinated by Garbiker (a public company attached to the Department of the Natural Environment and Agriculture) in collaboration with EIDE and Aclima.
- Conceptualisation (2022–2023): Although the project was initiated by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, it benefited from the support of a core team from EIDE for its conceptualisation from the outset, comprising Jon Abad (Abad Design), Benicio Aguerrea, Carlos San José (Circular Design Factory), and Brigitte Sauvage.
- Development and launch (2023–2024): Once the foundations had been laid, a process of co-design and project development was established between Garbiker, Aclima and EIDE, with Ricardo Antón (later replaced by Leire García) from ColaBoraBora and Lander Balza (hired by EIDE to coordinate projects with a primary focus on WLB) joining the existing group.
- ECC Coordination and Working Group (2025–present): Following the launch, two committees were formed for the shared governance of the WLB amongst its promoters (DFB, EIDE and Aclima): a quarterly strategic committee and a weekly technical committee, to which Benicio Aguerra and Lander Balza were assigned respectively. In parallel, a working group was formed at EIDE focused on the Creative and Circular Economy (ECC), bringing together those involved in the project to date, along with Jose Ignacio Aguirre (Klap), Marta Bariáin, Marina Blázquez, Antonio Cañas Rojas (Greenize), Laura Parralejo, Iván González (Biribil Ecolab), Estíbaliz Legarreta (Zarataka), Eneko Muruzabal (Bilibin Circular), Adele Orcajada (Material Driven) and Amaia Prieto (Baku Barrikupel).
This team is joined by the network of professionals and companies that has been taking shape within Alegre Biribilketa, with over 70 active contacts from other sectors such as art, crafts, architecture, interior design, the audiovisual industry, etc.
